Thermal Receipt Printers: Fast, economical and low maintenance

Receipt printers use direct thermal printing technology. This technology does not use ink to create the image on paper. Instead, it uses a special paper, treated with chemicals, which react to heat. Thus, when the thermal head of the receipt printers transfers that heat to the paper, it causes the paper to react by changing colour to create the black and white receipt.

This printing technology is particularly fast, quiet and easy to maintain, as the printhead does not smear with ink, so it hardly degrades and requires no maintenance. In addition, because it does not use ink for printing, it requires less consumables. This makes receipt printers truly

economical and versatile tools.

While they have great print quality, receipts printed with direct thermal technology are not the strongest and most durable, as they can degrade with heat, or prolonged exposure to the elements. For these reasons, a portable receipt printer is ideal for work in a retail shop, warehouse, distribution centre or delivery, where we need fast, but not particularly durable receipts.
